Our Touching and Successful International Overdose Awareness Day Events

Our thanks to our OCAT Coordinator, Jamie Baird; Mom Stop the Harm leader, Jane McCormick; Mid Island Peers, Bill Nelles; Kelly Morris and others who spoke of the personal Recovery Journeys; Jewelz for her songs; Public Health, Mental Health and Substance Use; NARSF’s, Mobile Response Team, and Black Press, who sent a reporter.  All of you made our International Overdose Awareness Day Event so meaningful for those who participated.

Your stories inspired important public awareness that will help to reduce the harms of the Toxic Drug Poisoning Public Health Emergency so that fewer of our community members will die, and so fewer families will lose their loved ones and their friends and their neighbours.

I have heard many comments about how people were really grateful for both the event at Parksville Community Centre, and the Vigil in the Community Park.

Links to the thoughtful coverage from the PQB News are included below. We hope to share a full report from the organizing team and photos from the event at our upcoming meeting on September 19, 1 pm to 3 pm.
